I didn’t know his work. In fact, until reading his obituary two weeks back, I had never heard of Weiss or Fischli. Increasing fascination and admiration had me reviewing and hunting for anything of theirs I could find. Elated with this new found (sincere and ironic) Swiss duo, the belated sense of lose has finally caught up.
“In the same year Weiss moved to Los Angeles, where he fell ill after a visit to Mexico and was forced to stay in bed for some time, reading and watching television repeats. This experience taught him a nuanced idiomatic English and an appreciation of American popular culture. He was also an inveterate and passionate reader of literature, though never flaunted his erudition. As soon as Fischli came to visit him, they began work on Der Geringste Widerstand (The Least Resistance, 1981), without money or actors but with the help of a Swiss friend to operate the camera. The Least Resistance saw Fischli/Weiss disguised as their alter egos Rat and Bear, undertaking an episodic tour of Hollywood in what is both a satire on the art world and a spirited Dadaist road movie.” View Larger

A fairly accurate description of opening night at Igloofest1+ Velvet’s Mad Decent fiesta.
Firstly - I have it on good authority the candles are fake (don’t fret, the rowdies up in front row didn’t ruin Diplo’s set). Secondly, Velvet was a snowy wonderland catering to a wonderfully eclectic crowd. Lastly - Uffie, drake, iggy and hova were all well represented.
The brief after after party chez Wes’s ft. k-pop (for my babe korean), polaroids, packing, casio watches, bubbles and DL Jones - at what can only be described as an old mtl faux chalet. Rather ratchet indeed.
Wes was great company despite major (i want to write LZR so bad) fatigue and having to jet set in a few hours - something about spatulas and airplanes. He’s like a big bro type - says it how it is, rolls with the punches, offering amusing stories/ anecdotes, and all your friends want to get with him. Big thanks to DL for being an incredible host and inadvertent taxi tour guide.
I leave you with this recent burst of wisdom from @diplo:
“rollin with my muchacho, hoes on my dick like dr zhivago . got a condo in key largo. so much money the goverment might start an embargo”
Sincerely,
White girl with big hair
1. Picturesque snowy - ice rave, hot alcohol, a mix of babely Quebec lumberjack types, tweens, smurfs, onesie sporting ravers, tripping to delicious beats in old Montreal [Slow Motion Snow-Globe]

During a recent escapade in Montreal with Cynthia, we had the pleasure of meeting Maya Jane Coles - our new favourite UK homegrrl, sake buddy and musical genius. We invited her for a personal shop at American Apparel pre-Igloofest, and hit it off right away when she vibed the riding pants, metallic cropped cardigan and anything resembling nylons or available in black.
She’s one of those rare people (read DJ/ musician) who conveys just the right amount and you can’t help but take an instant liking to - certainly carrying her own, but doesn’t speak for the sake of hearing her voice. Filling us in on touring & travels, brit slang (god bless) and life dj’ing for over TEN years now.
Ms. Coles is up for several IDMA nominations this year, including best break through dj and best solo-artist. You should probably have a listen (and again), check her out and vote here.
